Our childhood shapes our life in ways we know and don’t know. In this very important phase, there is one person who is unconditionally, limitlessly, tirelessly and eternally working for our health and success. And often that person is our mother.
And I believe anyone who cares this way for another is a mother in one way or the other, not just biologically.
But look at the irony of human behaviour, the person who selflessly cares for us, we sometimes disregard or worse, disrespect. The person who puts our needs above hers we often do not value enough, the person who fights with the world for us, we choose to fight against in the most bitter ways. The person who at a ripe old age still asks you if you have eaten your meals yet we forgot to call or return their calls to check on them and their health. The person who is praying to god for our welfare each day, we tend to not even speak to patiently. Each of us would be guilty of one of the above at least.
I do not believe in just a designated date to be grateful for loved ones in my life. I believe that it should be a part of who we are.
But Mother’s day gives me the opportunity to express and articulate my gratitude for the love and nurturing I have been blessed to receive from my mother. I am sure that as a kid, I would have irritated her a lot with my mischief, unending questions, arguments and fights. I would have fought her when she pushed me to expand my limits, she would have been tired by my disobedience, but I also know that she felt pride when she saw me fly and make a mark for myself in my career and personal life. She never let go of her love and attention for me even though I now had my own life far away from her home.
Yet, I still turn to her in times of doubt, or when I need advice on anything.
She is my life coach, for life.
And trust me, the only thing we can ever give our mother is our love and time, and this too is very small. If this post inspires you, do call your mother and have a chat, or give her a hug, or tell her how much she means to you. Not that she is expecting any of it or needs it, it will make you feel good and that will put a smile on her face too.
Happy Mothers Day, make it matter!

Sharing a few lines from a poem I wrote in my collection of poems, The silver sparrow https://tinyurl.com/nj7zbbs6
Happy Birthday Amma
She held us firm as we soared
Encouraging her girls as she would a boy
Her eyes shone with pride
As our dreams and hers merged.
She is my anchor,
Brave, witty and brilliant
We soaked in her inspiration
We grew with her love

Well written, Sharada !!
Agree , a Mother’s unconditional love is much more than sending her flowers on a particular day in appreciation .

Mother is embodiment of pure, genuine and intense love.Blessed are those who received Mother’s love and maternal guidance when they were young..But it is not given to all– not all. Some have to go through entire life with this unfulfilled desire.
