It has been an extremely challenging 2020 and 2021 due to the global pandemic disrupting the way we breathe, live, work, eat and relax.
The lock down babies are living in an artificial world of four walls, aged adults are self-imprisoned in their homes out of fear of infection, young kids are losing out on bonding and playing with friends and school mates, young adults and adults are going through fear of the future, their dreams of a higher education in question both due to travel restrictions and financial stress, doubts about will they get a job or retain their job, fear of life and livelihood all this and more we are witnessing day after day and the gloom of lives lost makes it sadder to bear.
Today I read a news clip of a 16-year-old girl who topped the board exams despite going through the trauma of being orphaned in a week’s time, losing both her young parents to Covid-19.
The current times are not easy for people and businesses but building oneself up to deal with this wave of disruption paves the way for health, happiness, and success. There are a few proven methods that can help center ourselves and emerge happier and successful. Different methods work for different people. You may pick what works for you. In this wellness series I will be sharing six techniques that builds you to find success and happiness.
Today let us explore the first one, Self -Love. I believe that everything start from within us. If we have love within, we can give love, if we have strength within, we can use it, if we have resilience within, we never give up.
Often, we neglect the aspect of self-love which is the foundation of what you can achieve in your life. Instead, we pull ourselves down for many reasons that don’t even matter. We allow comparisons, guilt, insecurity, others’ condescending words to affect us deeply and harm our self- respect and self- belief. This we do without any prompting.
What about trying self- love for a change? Gently close your eyes. Think about things you love about yourself without any judgement of what is good or bad. It could be anything from your looks to your abilities. Examples- I love my energy, I love my mischievousness, I love that I can irritate people, I love my eyes, I love the fact that I care for others, I love my carefree attitude to life, I love my talent to cook, I love my wittiness, I love that I am brilliant, I love my sense of humour……. You will discover an endless list of self-love once you do this exercise.
Can you pick out five from these and remember them each day as you wake up. You can put this up on your work desk or as a wallpaper on your mobile phone. A beautiful reminder each day of the wonderful person that you are, and it fills you with self-love. Enjoy these few moments of self -love every day at the start of the day. It’s the warm and positive hug you are giving yourself.
This treasure of self-love once unearthed by you will bring a new spark to your eyes, and a spring to your steps. It helps you know that you can conquer all challenges, you can enjoy your blessings as well as overcome negative disruptions thrown at you by people or situations. Just love yourself for whatever you are, unconditionally and deeply. Because you are worth it and you need it.
