In recent times we call it ‘Sustainability’- care for the environment so that we can survive. A bit late in the day but as the saying goes, ‘better late than never’.
This post brings to you an ancient proverb that rings a bell through our current pandemic times too and has the power to transform us and our behavior today.
Us, the humans, the most perceptive, blessed with the power of discrimination went on a rampage paying no heed to wise words. We are unstoppable you see, especially when someone tells us its not the right thing to do. We are responsible for slowly destroying the planet for our own luxury. So that we can live more lazily each day and do harmful things to nature with our idle curiosity in the name of science or whatever we choose to ratify it as. But when we cross the danger mark, which by the way, we certainly have and go totally out of balance, then we pay the price for the consequences. The melting glaciers, the global warming, the vanishing rivers, the infertile land, the rising sea levels, the rise in disease, the poor mental, physical and spiritual health.
The ancient wise could foresee the path of destruction we had chosen despite being stopped. One senses the frustration and pain in this proverb.
But you know what, it is never too late to reform and make a small step, a small difference from our own homes and neighborhood. Let us make conscious sustainable choices that harm the planet lesser each day or better still choices that does not harm our environment at all.
Small things we could do at home?
Once we start to think this way, our choices changes and so does our behavior. At our own homes, we could adopt habits of discriminating between need and wastage, water saving, not wasting electricity, using lesser plastic, building circular consumption through careful reuse. Buying from companies that believe and use sustainability processes. It is a never ending list of how each of us can make a difference. Start today and feel the earth smile along with you.
Companies can make a faster impact by adopting sustainable processes and mindsets in the real sense as opposed to tokenism. They can have a culture that embraces sustainability and thus start a process of healing of the planet in their own unique way.
Stay safe.
