I agree that we live in a fast-paced world specially if we are in a business hyper city.
There seems to be a rush for everything. And often unnecessarily. Maybe the pace is infectious.
Observe how people get anxious and stressed waiting for a lift, or talk about how they are constantly getting in and out of meetings (online/ offline), or frown if someone is not picking up their call, fidgeting while waiting. Sometimes it seems like people will not know what to do if there is nothing to do. So they love the madness of the permanent rush. Then there is just about enough time to sleep and wake up. Other things are on auto pilot rush mode.
While one may say it gives a high to be in this mode, the constant move from one activity to the other numbs our abilities, slowly but surely. There is need for a tiny space to rejuvenate. Else there will be burn out, sooner or later.
Often managers and leaders are pulled into multiple discussions, jumping from one meeting to another, taking one decision after another with barely breathing space to de-clutter and think afresh.
Even if there is a space, we have forgotten how to live in it, use it.
A pause has always been effective. Moments tiny yet powerful. It is the perfect formula for bringing our best selves to each situation, each meeting and each decision.
