The word INTUITION/ GUT is oft used in the media & entertainment business where I work. A lot of key decisions are dependent on creative aspects. These are usually subjective and there is never a consensus on what is right or what will eventually work out right. And business success or failure depends largely on these very decisions.
These gut suggestions are then rigorously checked externally with data, ratified or modified in a bid to fool proof and most importantly not to question.
Typical linear thinking management people who are uncomfortable with things that cannot be put into a concept, jargon, formula or process, feel like a fish out of water in such situations especially when intuition delivers and they cannot get a hang of it. And for all of them now, there is a new hot buzz word “Artificial intelligence”.
Human intelligence (HI) is so powerful and Intuition is one of its manifestations. What is termed as intuition is the ability to take decisions that seem effortless, instinctive, without conscious reasoning. But truth is that these decisions are actually formed on the basis of past experience and cume knowledge.
So there is a very logical, data driven and analytical process happening behind the intuition combined with emotions. And these processes are working on rich varied experiences and facts collected over a period of time relevant to the current task at hand.
So the age old saying, listen to your gut/listen to what your heart is telling you/ follow your intuition is all well placed in a healthy body & mind.
Albert Einstein said,” The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honours the servant and has forgotten the gift”.
Keeping the human intelligence ahead is necessary for machines to model on and develop more automated processes for the comfort of current and future generations.
HI is one of the pillars of AI. That’s a lot of responsibility on us to keep our intuition sharp, working and agile, despite the growing comfort provided by automation, which in turn tempts complacency. That’s truly ironic!
The more we progress, the more the need to hold on to our native & human intelligence.
How we could do that, I shall share in a later blog. Till then lets start becoming more aware of the decisions that we take each day, driven by our intuition. Check if it has turned out right. You will be amazed!
